Hoya pottsii ‘Chiang Mai’
This Hoya was sold to me under the name of Hoya merrillii so that is what I am going to go with until I find out the correct name. I have seen pictures of other’s Hoya merrillii, and they look quite different than mine. All I know is that this plant is near perfect on many levels. I feel that with its deeply scalloped leaves, compact form, it is lovely to behold. It looks so nice that the flowers are only a bonus. Whatever its name may be, it is a keeper!! Edited 7/15/12 – I just found out the true name of this plant; it is called Hoya pottsii ‘Chiang Mai’ and is from Thailand. I love this Hoya even more than before. The leaves on this Hoya get large and are shiny with conspicuous veins. The flowers are small, but very pretty. The corona is white with a light peach center and the corolla is greenish/yellow. They come in clusters with many flowers. It is from Northern Thailand called Chiang Mai and also Burma. This Hoya is recommended for your collection because it is a fast grower, easy to grow, easy to flower and has beautiful leaves that you can enjoy without flowers.
We grow this Hoya outside in filtered light and keep the soil slightly dry. This Hoya tends to get black dots on the leaves. The spots are not a disease and will not affect the plants health. If you grow your Hoyas in a different climate, the new growth should be clean.

The beginner’s hoya – fast-growing, fast-flowering and easy to grow.
Beautiful shiny, large leaves with conspicuous veins, up to 11cm x 6cm. Foliage will become bright red when grown in bright light.
Blooms: Reflexed sandy-yellow coloured flowers measuring up to 10mm with bright yellow-centred white corona. Up to 30 flowers per umbel. Very pretty and pleasantly fragrant. Flowers easily. Flowers last up to 7 days.
Sun exposure: Bright indirect light.
Water requirement: Prefers well-drained, open mix. Water less in winter.
Maintenance: Low. Fertilise in growing period.
Special note: Collector’s Number 5. WAOL permitted. Often develops gorgeous red / purple beauty spots in response to light exposure. Formerly Hoya pottsii Chiang Mai.
