SpliX Error while rendering the request. Check the previous message
Well, since we upgraded to 64bit i’ve been tweaking the system once again… always a learning experience!Have rediscovered that the SpliX drivers for this printer are supposed to be better than the ones that come with CUPS. i’ve gotten as far as d/l and installed the SpliX driver for this printer from the SpliX website and using http://localhost:631/ to set up a Samsung test printer. i was able to now select the SpliX driver but when i run a test page from the webpage i getWhen i go into /opt/OpenPrinting-SpliX/ppds/samsung i saw that there was no “/cms/” folder. i created one using root and copied the ppd file for the Samsung 300 (the site says that the 300 and 315 are pretty much the same). But i still get the above error.i suspect that either my file naming is incorrect or i have not found the correct (cms) file to place there.Can anyone help with this? Have a great afternoon!

I set up the printer on a netbook with 14.1 and it’s working fine (using packages from slackonly but specific for 14.1) both locally connected and trough the print server.
Maybe that version of splix is incompatible with cups from slackware … I’ll go have a look if slackonly has cups-* packages.

This is on Ubuntu 9.10 with splix-2. 0.0-2ubuntu2. I went to fedex.com to generate a prepaid shipping paper and was unable to print the output from my browser. I then tried to print to a file, saved it as a PDF, opened it as a PDF using the default Document Viewer (Evince, I believe), and tried printing from there unsuccessfully. However, printing a test page and other PDFs work fine. It is this particular PDF.

I do not understand why you found it necessary to disable ulpt(4). I’ve done so with some multifunction printers in order to do things like use their scanners. Is it needed?
I also don’t understand why you touched any ownerships or permissions in /dev. My thought was the permissions problem was with a spool file, not the device (which is managed by CUPS, not by the Splix filter, to the best of my understanding). You should be able to easily revert your /dev settings to their defaults by using the MAKEDEV tool. eg: Code: # cd /dev; sh MAKEDEV all
A search of the ports@ mailing list only had one short conversation about Splix, unassociated with your problem.
I recommend you post to ports@ with your problem description as you have done here. The Splix port maintainer is Antoine Jacoutot (ajacoutot@), he is active on the ports@ mailing list or you may contact him directly. My best guess is that Splix failed to open a, not a device.
