1. Why is this video so long/do you really have to talk that much?
To answer the second question off the bat, yes. To answer both – the reason behind the length is due to me having done tutorials on a variety of topics in the past where no matter how *thorough* I think I’m being, I still get asked a ton of questions about something I didn’t show/explain, and/or, people are always going – \”what do I do with this though?\” or \”where did this come from?\” or \”why?\” or \”how come?\” and so on. So, yes.
2. Just a simple disclaimer, yada-yada, if your CC gets ruined with this process, I apologise but I cannot be held accountable. I mentioned several times in the video (or at least once/twice) that merging and compressing *can* affect the texture/quality. However, this rarely happens.

The Sims 2 Compressorizer was always a great tool, to turn big files into little ones.I just wished, we could have a Sims 4 Compressorizer. The game won´t start quick, with too much CC. The Compressorizer could fix such problems. Does anyone think, it´s do-able?

I don’t know if it’s the same. But Studio has the ability to merge .packages into one. You can do that in Tools/Merge packages. You then can choose which ones to merge.

i didn’t use any cc in my sims 2 era. But i did used the sims 3 versions. The compressorizer not only merged, but reduced (i don’t know the technic part of it) the size of the package. Like a winrar for cc. The only thing i noticed was that it reduced the quality of the thumbnails.. but i’m pretty sure it did more.

I used the sims 2 compressorizer for all my CC and I had a lot. It reduced the file size down to about a third I think. It didn’t merge any of my packages they all stayed the same just smaller and easier for the game to load. Nor did I notice any thumbnail difference but it may have affected them and I just didn’t notice. It would be great to have this tool for the Sims 4 seeing as the packages can be large with lots of re colours.

Compressorizer for TS4

Is there a tool like the The Compressorizer Redux (TS3) , for TS4 yet? I know with the Sims 4 Studio we can merge packs, but it doesn’t really recompresses them.My mods folder is 9,72 GB and I have 38 merged, and 9 not-merged package files in that folder. Yes, the game loads faster when files are merged, but I’d like the files to take a smaller place. I’m sure I’m not the only one. Besides the smaller the package is, the faster the game loads, am I wrong? With the Compressorizer Redux we were able to reduce file size almost to half. Which is actually a huge deal!I can create custom content for TS4, but I’m not in the modding business to the point of creating tools like that. So I can’t create a similar tool, myself. But I can do the next best thing, and bring this matter up, and ask for somebody / anybody to make a tool like this. Please. Pretty please! We know there are some geniuses out there who can do this!

Compressorizer Redux!

JM Pescado updated the dbpf-recompress tool that was the backbone of the original Compressorizer for the Sims 2, so now you can have the same Compressorizing goodness for your Sims 3 game!

Purpose:

The Compressorizer Redux! will compress DBPF package files to save hard drive space. Just like the Sims 2 Compressorizer, the Sims 3 Compressorizer allows you to pick a directory and will search for all known file extensions utilized by the game. Currently, this includes:

.package

.dbc

.sim

.sims3

.world

.sims3pack

Current Features:

Functions very similarly to the Sims 2 Compressorizer. Point the program at a directory and it will search for files within that directory and execute the s3rc.exe tool on them.

You can choose to either do a normal compression or “decrapify” files that aren’t showing up in your game.

A NOTE ABOUT DECRAPIFYING:

The use of the decrapify option shouldn’t need to be used frequently, and in fact should rarely need to be used at all. It can be helpful with content that doesn’t install (such as old legacy Sims3Packs made with early versions of custom content tools) or doesn’t show up in the game anymore. In my own experience, after I patched, all of my CC, including EA made content such as Riverview, disappeared from my game, and my saved games that were dependent upon Riverview disappeared as well. Decrapifying fixed things for me.

You should be aware that if you decrapify any content that is ALREADY installed (IE the .dbc files), you will then need to decrapify all of your saved game files.

Decrapifying is an experimental option that Pescado made to address some of these problems. As such you should treat it with care and make proper backups.

Requirements:

The program requires that you have the .NET Framework version 2.0 installed to run.

Instructions

Download the attached .zip file and extract it to a folder. Doesn’t matter where. Launch CompressorizerRedux.exe to run the program.

Need Help?

If you receive an error with the s3rc.exe file itself (IE Windows reports that it has “stopped working”), go to More Awesome Than You to report the error to Pescado.

If you receive an error running the actual CompressorizerRedux.exe file, make sure you have .NET 2.0.

If you notice any oddities with the results of the compression, download the latest version of s3rc.exe from More Awesome Than You and replace the version included with the program.

Hey all, I’d like your opinion on something.

I feel that my game (game-play) could benefit from a smaller dl folder but like all compulsive downloaders (admitting you have a problem is the first step) I don’t want to loose what I have. Which is approximately 1.21GB – I know, comparatively small – but my game runs best with half dl to RAM and with just 2GB of RAM somethings got to give (approx. 0.21GB).

So I downloaded The Compressorizer. Only thing is, I’ve used it before and it MAY have been a contributor to a near fatal crash and call me weird but I don’t want that to happen again. Particularly on my shiny new pc. Now, and at the time, I wondered if there were files in my dl folder that simply shouldn’t be compressed, for example hacks and mods. Am I just fooling myself? I’m thinking I should stick to compressing ‘Objects and Recolours’ and leave ‘Build’, ‘Vehicles’, ‘Hair’, ‘Makeup,’ ‘Glasses’ and ‘Clothing’ alone.

What do you reckon? Pointless plan? Good idea? Just shut up and compress already? Dear God woman, why are you here?

ETA: Okay, I girded my loins and my dl folder went from 1.21GB to less than 600MB – pretty cool. Haven’t played yet, is it wrong to just want to go get more stuff?

I’m afraid I’m not sure about this, sorry. Have you tried installing the hairs in question without compressing them? Are they still pixelated if not compressed?

I’ve never messed about with the Sim Texture Sizes in GraphicsRules.sgr so don’t know if that would have an impact or not.

Sorry, I’m not much help on this subject but hopefully, someone else will see this and let you know. 🙂
